Portraits of American Girlhood

Portraits of American Girlhood is a 250+ page unit study guide that uses the American Girl historical book series by Pleasant Company. (Please see disclaimer.) The study is designed to last either one traditional 36-week school schedule using six of the seven units included, or a year-round 42-week schedule using all seven units. The study guide is written from a Christian/creationist perspective. All essential books needed are usually available at the library and major book chains.

The guide is for grades 2-5, but can easily be adapted for older students using the enrichment activities at the back of each chapter. It comes with a FREE CD ROM that contains over 70 worksheets, maps and handouts for you to print out from your own computer. Also included are adaptation ideas for kids with special needs, how to include boys in the study, and lots of tips and tricks to help you along the way.  More information HERE.

I have not personally done this study yet.  I have taken quite some time reviewing it and believe that in the near future I most likely will do it with my girls.  HERE is a link to The Old Schoolhouse for a more in depth review.
